Utilize Cursor and Copilot to accelerate software delivery responsibly

Diagnose and resolve complex errors with AI reasoning feedback

Write automated tests and documentation at high velocity

Per-Hour Syllabus & Course Curriculum

Instructional Pacing

12 Hours Recommended (8 hrs minimum accelerated)

Flexible teaching units with hands-on labs and tangible milestones

Learn

Tools available, setup, what they can/can't be trusted to do.

Do

Set up an AI coding assistant and run a first generated snippet.

Can now

Set up and use a basic AI coding assistant.

Learn

Writing specific, context-rich prompts for code.

Do

Rewrite a vague coding prompt into a specific one.

Can now

Write a clear, specific coding prompt.

Learn

Iterating on unsatisfactory AI output.

Do

Refine a prompt through 2–3 iterations to get working code.

Can now

Iteratively improve AI-generated code through prompting.

Learn

Generating functions/small modules with AI, reviewing critically.

Do

Generate a function and review it line by line before using it.

Can now

Generate and critically review AI-written code.

Learn

Using AI to understand unfamiliar code.

Do

Get AI to explain a piece of unfamiliar code, then verify the explanation.

Can now

Use AI to understand code faster, while verifying accuracy.

Learn

Feeding errors/context to get useful debugging help.

Do

Paste a real error and context to get a suggested fix.

Can now

Use AI effectively to diagnose a bug.

Learn

Practising fixing real bugs with AI assistance.

Do

Fix 2–3 real bugs using AI assistance.

Can now

Resolve real bugs with AI as a debugging partner.

Learn

Using AI to refactor and clean up existing code.

Do

Refactor a messy function with AI help and review the result.

Can now

Use AI to refactor code responsibly.

Learn

Generating comments/README content with AI, reviewing accuracy.

Do

Generate documentation for a small project and correct inaccuracies.

Can now

Use AI to draft documentation while checking it for accuracy.

Learn

Navigating/understanding a codebase you didn't write, with AI help.

Do

Use AI to map out an unfamiliar codebase's structure.

Can now

Orient themselves in an unfamiliar codebase using AI assistance.

Learn

Making a small, safe change to that codebase.

Do

Implement and test one small change.

Can now

Safely make a small change to an existing codebase.

Learn

Reviewing what to trust vs verify in AI-assisted work.

Do

Complete a short project built with AI assistance throughout.

Can now

Independently build a small project with AI assistance while verifying critical parts themselves.

Flexible Course Pacing & Extension Guidelines

⏱ Extend if: Learner wants to practice on a larger existing codebase — add 2–3 hrs, new total 14–15 hrs.

Hour blocks are modular teaching units. Sessions can be merged into 90–120 min deep-dives or split into shorter focused sessions for younger learners while preserving every learning outcome.

Equipment & Prerequisites

Working understanding of at least one programming language (JS, TS, Python)

Computer with VS Code or Cursor IDE installed
